2 Alternatives To Teeth Whiteners

2 Alternatives To Teeth WhitenersTeeth whiteners can be an effective and inexpensive way to remove stains and yellowness while brightening your smile, but the hydrogen peroxide and other chemicals used for this treatment can lead to sensitive teeth, plus the treatments will eventually wear off.  However, there are alternatives to whiteners that can avoid these side effects and last longer at the same time.

Bonding

Bonding refers to a special kind of resin that dentists can apply to teeth as a way to cover, protect, and reshape them.  Bonding resin can fill in chips and damaged teeth, it can change the shape of teeth to adjust the size of the gap between them, and it can change their color to match that of healthy teeth.  Bonded teeth are easy to care for since all you need to do is brush them like normal teeth and avoid the same food and drink that stains normal teeth, especially while the resin sets during the first two days.

Veneers

Veneers are strips of resin or porcelain that teeth in the same way as bonding.  This means you can use veneers to permanently whiten teeth, repair damage, and reshape your smile.  The difference is that a veneer takes shape before a dentist slips it on and bonds it to your natural tooth while the dentist applies bonding resin in putty form and molds it into shape as it hardens.  Veneers are more expensive than bonding because of the extra steps needed to make them, but they’re better for bigger changes like broken and completely misaligned teeth.

Other ways to permanently brighten your smile include dental implants and dentures, but for obvious reasons, they aren’t good alternatives to tooth whitening products.  Veneers and resin bonding are effective ways to improve both the shape and the color of your smile, and if you think the price is worth it then they can be much more effective over the long term than tooth whitening products.
